Have you ever taught a child to swim?
It is one of the most fun and exciting things to do. Some take risks, others are a little shy, some are afraid of water and others are afraid of everything.
On several occasions, I have had the privilege of teaching others how to swim. Not because I am an expert swimmer, but because it’s something I can do with ease. Teaching children to experience new and fun activities is not easy, but it is fun. I must earn their trust. We must overcome fear and find grace, because any small mistake can sow something negative in them. To swim, the first thing they need to learn is how to breathe.
With this simple game, your child will be able to stimulate their breathing. This is very important for the development of your child as it helps stimulate their articulatory organs (nose, mouth, larynx and cheek muscles). Organs that also participate in the development of speaking and encourage breathing.
We are going to need:
- A square and tall bucket
- A sheet of paper
- Colored sand
- Straws (preferably paper straws to take care of our planet)
- A marker
The game is called Blow to Find!
First, using the marker and sheet of paper, draw something your child can easily recognise (numbers, letters, animals). After doing so, stick it to the bottom of the square bucket. Next, pour the colored sand on the paper to cover it completely and give your child a straw.
The objective of the game is for them to find the images you drew under the colored sand e.g. the number 1 or a cow. They will have to blow strongly or softly according to your direction, as they look for the images.
Children really like to receive prizes. Look for something they really like as an incentive for their good work.
As you can see, it is a very easy game to do. It will help you to stimulate your breathing, control it properly and concentrate.
